I couldn’t find – the courage to walk out,
I couldn’t gather – the strength to push you away,
I couldn’t explain – the black eye or the scars on my wrist,
I couldn’t stop – the incessant flow of tears,
I couldn’t find – enough cotton to stop my bleeding wounds,
I couldn’t stop – the shaking, the nightmares and the trauma,
And I just couldn’t fathom – WHY i ever thought this was love…
This poem has been written for this week’s “Poetry 101 Rehab” with the theme word “Couldn’t”.
I have written this poem from the perspective of a victim in an abusive relationship.
